🌍 The Professional College of the Security Academy participated in an international webinar —
„"Emerging Skills Needs and Training Offers in the Renewable Energy Sector," which was implemented with the support of the ongoing MiCRET project under the European Union's Erasmus+ program.
The event was of special importance, as it directly addressed one of Europe's most significant challenges—the shortage of a qualified workforce in the renewable energy sector and the need to develop new professional skills.
The MiCRET project is co-funded by the European Union and its main objective is to modernize vocational education in the process of the green and digital transformation in Europe, new microqualifications (Microcredentials) development and the creation of modern, flexible, and market-oriented learning models for the energy sector.
The webinar presented the results of a large-scale study that included 6 European countries—Italy, France, Greece, Portugal, the Netherlands, and Belgium. The study examined:
✅ Current and Future Professional Skills in the Renewable Energy Sector
✅ In-demand professions in the labor market
✅ Integration of digital and green competencies
✅ The need for the development of micro-qualifications and short-term training
✅ New Models for Cooperation between Vocational Education and Business
As part of the project, more than 220 educational programs and practices were analyzed across Europe to identify the real needs of the modern energy sector and the existing gaps in education.
Participants in the event:
🔹 European organizations for vocational education
🔹 Leading companies in the energy sector
🔹 International experts
🔹 Policy makers
🔹 Research and Academic Institutions
🔹 Representatives of InnoEnergy — one of the most influential European innovation platforms in the field of clean energy
Special attention was paid to the so-called "Twin Transition" — the combined process of green and digital transformation, which is already shaping the future of the European labor market. The study showed that the modern energy sector requires not only technical knowledge, but also:
▪️ Digital skills
▪️ Data analysis
▪️ Managing SCADA and IoT systems
▪️ Knowledge of energy efficiency and ESG approaches
▪️ modern standards of safety and practical competencies
One of the main messages of the webinar was that the professional education of the future should be:
✔ Flexible
✔ Tailored to the industry
✔ Practice-based
✔ Short-term and stackable (microcredentials)
✔ Oriented toward international recognition
The MiCRET project also emphasizes the need for close cooperation among vocational education, business, and policymakers to create a modern European energy workforce.
For the Security Academy's vocational college, participation in such international initiatives is particularly important, as our college is actively working on renewable energy management, green skills, occupational safety, and the development of modern vocational education.
We believe that it is precisely such European collaborations, research, and international partnerships that lay the foundation for developing modern, competitive, and industry-tailored vocational education in Georgia.
